Ivo was meant to be a sailor from birth, sailing talent flows through his veins as both his parents are experienced sailors, his mother even competed in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the Europe class. From an early age he has frequently been on board his parent’s boat, which spiked his enthusiasm for sailing. Thus he started, like many others, in an Optimist dinghy. Soon after learning how to sail he found it was time to start racing. This went so well that he even made the national youth team in 2012. After growing out of his Optimist he proceeded in the Laser 4.7 and later Laser Radial class where he competed in various international events. Eventually he stopped that campaign because he couldn’t quite keep a competitive bodyweight for the physically demanding Laser Standard class. After his Laser days he continued sailing, this time on board his fathers boat on which he competes in ORC competitions and various offshore races such as the cam race and the ‘scheveningen 500’. In the mean time he started his bachelor Civil Engineering at the ‘Hoge school Rotterdam’. Now as a second year student he is ready to go on his next sailing adventure with team Delft Challenge.
